How should i hint that i like him, or should i just give up?

its not like you will die if he says no its his lose its better to know now then later regret it.....i do get that you might have pride so if i was you i would talk to his friend and its perfect that his your friend so he will def look out for you wont make you look bad just tell him exactly what you wrote here and he might help you get him or tell you that he likes you...but girl dont give up go for it....good Luck (^_^)
